Initial consultation
We offer a brief telephone or email consultation, free of charge, in order to help you understand your options and to determine whether you may be a candidate for an evaluation and/or therapy.

Evaluation
It is necessary to complete an initial evaluation to determine the nature of the problem and develop an appropriate treatment plan and goals. If you already have an existing evaluation which is less than six months old, it may not be necessary to conduct another evaluation. An evaluation will typically last between one and one and a half hours.

Therapy
Therapy sessions are typically offered for 30 or 45 minutes anywhere between one and three times per week depending on the treatment plan determined from the evaluation. Therapy is available for individuals with the following speech-language diagnoses including, but not limited to:

  • Aphasia - a disorder resulting from damage (e.g. stroke or brain injury) to the parts of the brain that contain language. It can cause problems with speaking, understanding, reading and writing.
  • Apraxia - a motor speech disorder caused by damage to the parts of the brain related to speaking. People with apraxia of speech have trouble sequencing the sounds in syllables and words.
  • Articulation/Speech Disorder - involves problems making sounds. Sounds can be substituted, omitted, added or changed, which makes speech difficult to understand. In children, this occurs when they make mistakes past a certain age. Adults can have speech sound disorders which have continued from childhood or result from a variety of medical conditions.
  • Childhood Apraxia of Speech - a motor speech disorder in which children have problem saying sounds, syllables and words. The brain has problems planning to move the body parts needed for speech, and is not because of muscle weakness or paralysis.
  • Dysarthria - a motor speech disorder where the muscles of the mouth, face and respiratory system may become weak after stroke, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease or other medical conditions. Speech can be slurred, barely audible, slowed and/or hoarse.
  • Speech and Language Delay  - children with speech and language delay may have difficulty understanding language and talking. For more information, go to
